Donna and David decided to get married at Altskeith House right on Loch Ard in Scotland, and when I say ‘right on’ I mean it was about 35 ft from the edge of the property to the waters edge! What an absolutely stunning backdrop for a wedding. The venue is designed to make to most of it’s beautiful surroundings with a main function room with bifolding doors that open right up to reveal the most amazing views of the lake and the mountain beyond.
Having met Donna and David before their wedding I knew they were a pretty laid back couple and this was carried through to their day perfectly. The ceremony was held at 3pm and just had their closest family and friends. It was an intimate, humanist service with a knot tying ceremony at the end. It was followed by a 3 course dinner where all the friends and family sat round one table, laughing and joking together.
The rest of their friends and family turned up around 4.30pm for what felt more like a family gathering than a formal wedding. The sun never stopped shining all day so guests mingled outside on the patio while any children there played in the stream leading to the lake. Peopled were gathered round to hear the speeches which were kept just as relaxed as the rest of the day.
The evening consisted of more drinking and laughing outside along with dancing to The Fontains who had also travelled up from Newcastle just for the occasion.
As if it couldn’t get any better we had the most perfect light as the sun was setting over the lake so we took to some row boats to make the most of it. Granted my boat had a fault with an ore, so there was a bit of an interesting 10minutes where me and my volunteers rower had to problem solve our way back to shore but all of it just added to the fun of the day.
